Six Frogs Tabbed MW All-Conference

FORT WORTH, Texas - Preston Morrison made history, becoming the first-ever athlete in Mountain West history to be selected as Freshman of the Year and Pitcher of the Year accolades. He leads a group of six TCU Horned Frogs to earn all-conference honors.
Morrison, a right-hander from Waxhaw, N.C., was 5-0 in Conference action with a league-leading 1.54 earned run average in 46.2 innings of work. He struck out 37 batters while only walking seven. Morrison also added a save in his eight MW appearances. Overall, Morrison was 9-0 during the regular season with an ERA of 1.55 and 61 strikeouts.
Morrison is just the fourth freshman in school history to earn Freshman of the Year honors. He joins Royce Huffman (SWC, 1996), Chad Huffman (C-USA, 2004) and Matt Purke (MW, 2010) to earn the accolade. He is also the fifth Horned Frog to be selected as the Pitcher of the Year. He joins the likes of Clayton Jerome (C-USA, 2003), Lance Broadway (C-USA, 2005), Jake Arrieta (MW, 2006) and Steven Maxwell (MW, 2010).
Coats, was named to the all-Mountain West First Team for the third consecutive season. A senior outfielder from Plano, Texas, is just the third three-time, first-team honoree in the league's 13-year history to receive the honor (Jay Brossman - Utah, 2004-05, 2007; Jordan Pacheco - New Mexico, 2005-07). In 21 league games, Coats hit .337 with a team-high five home runs and 25 RBIs. On the season, he leads the team with a .326 average and 45 RBIs.
Mitchell put together a solid conference season, compiling a 4-1 mark in nine starts. In 42 2/3 innings pitched, the right-hander from Houston, Texas posted a 2.11 ERA and struck out 57 batters. On the season, Mitchell has a 5-3 record with a 2.97 ERA. His 90 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings pitched leads the team.
Honored for the second time in his career, Witte paced the team with a .378 average in league play. He tallied four doubles, one home run and drove in 10 in 20 conference games. On the year, Witte, a third baseman who hails from Arlington, Texas, is hitting .325 with eight doubles, two home runs and 18 RBIs.
Von Tungeln earns his first nod on an all-conference team after hitting .291 in 24 conference games. He stroked four doubles and drove in 12 runs. Additionally, the centerfielder from Sugar Land, Texas, notched four stolen bases. On the season, Von Tungeln is hitting .290 with 10 doubles, 18 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.
Allen, a relief pitcher from Weatherford, Texas made eight appearances in conference play. He paced the team with three saves and posted a 1-0 record. He posted a 1.29 ERA in seven innings pitched with eight strikeouts. On the season, he is 5-2 with five saves in 25 appearances. The junior has fanned 42 batters in 29 1/3 innings pitched with a 1.23 ERA.
