New Mexico and San Diego State Advance To 2013 NCAA Baseball Tournament

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mountain West regular season champion New Mexico and MW tournament champion San Diego State have been selected to participate in the 2013 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Aztecs (31-29) earned the league's automatic bid after winning the MW Baseball Championship in Fresno, Calif., on Sunday and are making their first appearance in the NCAA postseason since 2009. The Lobos (37-20) will be making their fourth consecutive NCAA appearance. It is the fifth year in a row that the MW is sending multiple baseball teams to the NCAA tournament.

San Diego State is headed to the Los Angeles Regional on May 31-June 3 as the No. 4 seed. The Aztecs take on No. 1 seed UCLA (39-17), an at-large selection from the Pacific 12 Conference. The winner will take on the winner of the game between No. 2 seed Cal Poly (39-17), a Big West Conference at-large pick vs. No. 3 seed San Diego (35-23), the West Coast Conference automatic bid. SDSU's game with UCLA on Friday is set for 6 p.m. PT with Cal Poly vs. USD scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.

No. 3 seed New Mexico will face No. 2 Arizona State (35-20-1) in the first round of the Fullerton Regional on May 31-June 3. The Sun Devils earned an at-large bid out of the Pac 12 Conference. The winner of the UNM-Arizona State game will face the winner of Cal State Fullerton (48-8), the Big West champion and No. 5 national seed, against No. 4 seed Columbia (27-19), the Ivy League champion. The Lobos' game is set for 4 p.m. PT with Cal State Fullerton vs. Columbia scheduled for 8 p.m. PT.

Each of the 16 regionals features a four-team double-elimination format. Every game of the 2013 NCAA Baseball Tournament will be broadcast on ESPN3 with select games available on ESPNU.
