Three MW Players Named 2013 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-Americans

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Three Mountain West baseball players were among those honored today when Collegiate Baseball magazine announced the 2013 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans. Joining MW Co-Freshmen of the Year Sam Haggerty (New Mexico) and Blake Quinn (FS) on the list was San Diego State closer Bubba Derby.

Derby, a second-team All-Mountain West honoree, led the league with 10 saves as the Aztecs' top reliever. The native of Monrovia, Calif., went 4-3 with an ERA of 3.79 while pitching 35.2 innings over 24 appearances. He struck out 44 batters and walked 14.

Quinn, also on the All-MW second team, went 3-3 with an ERA of 3.02 while making eight starts for the Bulldogs this season over 14 appearances. The Fresno, Calif., product struck out 34 batters and surrendered 18 walks in 50.2 innings of work.

Haggerty, the third All-MW second -teamer, made 58 starts as the Lobos' starting second baseman in 2013, hitting .280 with 63 hits. The Denver, Colo., native scored 58 runs and drove in 32. He had 15 multi-base hits, including nine doubles, five triples and one home run.
