SECAUCUS, N.J. --- Fresno State junior right-handed pitcher Tyler Stirewalt and senior catcher/first baseman Trent Garrison were chosen on the third day of the 2013 Major League Baseball amateur draft.
Stirewalt, a native of San Bernardino, Calif., was picked by the Minnesota Twins in the 21st Round as the No. 620 overall selection. He had walked-on to the Bulldogs' baseball team the past two seasons after originally playing quarterback for the Fresno State football team as a freshman.
"I'm pumped and very excited to go out and start my pro career and play baseball," Stirewalt said Saturday afternoon.
The selection of Garrison by the New York Yankees in the 28th Round with the No. 854 overall pick reunites the twin battery of Trent and Taylor Garrison, who also played together at Fresno State. Trent Garrison is the second Bulldog to be taken by the Yankees' organization during the three-day draft, as Fresno State junior outfielder Aaron Judge went in the first round to New York with the No. 32 overall selection.
Stirewalt and Garrison are the fourth and fifth Bulldogs, respectively, to be drafted this week.
