Mountain West Announces Men's Basketball Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State sophomore guard Jamaal Franklin has been named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games through February 5. This is the second career weekly accolade for Franklin.

Franklin led No. 17 San Diego State to a 2-0 week with wins over Boise State and TCU to put the Aztecs alone in first place at the midway point of Mountain West play. The sophomore guard averaged 20.0 points and 9.5 rebounds, while shooting 50.0 percent from the field (10-of-20) and 90.0 percent from the charity stripe (18-of-20) for the week. In Wednesday's 58-56 win over Boise State, Franklin led SDSU with 16 points, a game-high eight rebounds and one blocked shot in 30 minutes of play. He went 9-of-10 from the free throw line, including hitting all four of his attempts in the final 34 seconds as the Aztecs held on for the two-point victory. The nine free throws marked a career-high. Three days later vs. TCU, Franklin went 7-of-11 from the field and 9-of-10 from the charity stripe en route to a game-high 24 points. The Hawthorne, Calif., native added a game- and career-best 11 rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot in 33 minutes of action as the Aztecs logged the 83-73 win.
