UNLV's Mike Moser Named to Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List

Feb. 6, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's basketball sophomore forward Mike Moser is one of 20 players on the 2012 Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List, the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced Monday.

Members of the association's board of directors chose the 20 players to be included on the list as contenders for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, which will be presented to the national player of the year by its namesake in New Orleans at the USBWA's College Basketball Awards breakfast on March 30. The list includes five seniors, six juniors, six sophomores and three freshmen.

Moser, who is the only Mountain West player to make the list, leads the No. 14/16 Runnin' Rebels in scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double (14.5 ppg, 11.5 rpg). His rebounding average ranks third in the country and he is the only player in the nation to have two games with 20 or more rebounds this season.

Moser has started all 25 games for UNLV (21-4) this year and has turned in 13 double-doubles, which ranks first in the Mountain West and 12th in the country. He is shooting 47.2 percent from the field, 77.3 percent from the free-throw line and averaging 1.8 steals per game. He is the only player in the Mountain West to be in the top five in scoring, rebounding, field-goal percentage and steals.

Moser was also on the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list, which was announced in January.

While the 20 players on this list are the leading contenders to be named to the USBWA's All-America Team and finalists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, all Division I players remain eligible for postseason honors from the USBWA. The association will announce its 2012 All-America Team in mid-March. At that time, finalists will also be chosen for the player of the year. Once finalists are announced, the entire USBWA membership will vote for the winner of the Oscar Robertson Trophy.

The Runnin' Rebels will host No. 13/14 San Diego State at the Thomas & Mack Center this Saturday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. PST. The game will be televised on NBC Sports Network.
