Wyoming's Larry Nance Jr. Nominated for Dunk of the Year
Feb. 14, 2012
Wyoming freshman forward Larry Nance Jr.'s slam dunk against San Diego State on Jan. 24 has been nominated for the Dunk of the Year on ESPN2. Each week for four weeks, six rim-rattling dunks will be nominated for the honor. Two winners from each week will be determined by fan voting through the official Facebook page. Wyoming fans can vote for Nance Jr. until Monday, Feb. 20, at www.facebook.com/DunksOfTheYear.
The eight finalists will compete in a two-week voting competition to determine the Dunk of the Year, which will be announced during the Dunks of the Year special which airs March 26 on ESPN2.
Late in the first half of a tightly-contested game between the Cowboys and then-No. 12 ranked San Diego State, Nance Jr. channeled his inner-Michael Jordan, taking off from just inside the foul line to throw down an emphatic dunk over the Aztec's Chase Tapley. The slam was featured No. 1 on ESPN SportsCenter's top plays that night.
Nance Jr.'s dunk is competing against five other nominees from week three, including Kansas' Thomas Robinson, Florida's Bradley Beal, Washington's Tony Wroten, Rollins College's David Diakite and Arkansas Pine-Bluff's Savalace Townsend.
