No. 20 UNLV To Face New Mexico Friday Night

The No. 20 UNLV men's basketball team (26-7) defeated Wyoming, 56-48, on Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Conoco Mountain West Men's Basketball Championship at the Thomas & Mack Center to advance to Friday night's semifinal. The win extended its win streak at the Thomas & Mack Center to 17 games, which ranks seventh in the nation, and improved its record at home this season to 18-0. The Runnin' Rebels are undefeated at home this season for the first time in 20 years.

The Runnin' Rebels finished in third place in the league standings, one game out of first, to earn the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament and will now face No. 2 seed and co-MW regular season champion New Mexico (25-6) on Friday, March 9, at 8:30 p.m. Friday's game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network with Todd Harris and Steve Lappas calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio broadcast, which may be heard live in Las Vegas on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/98.9 FM. The radio broadcast is also available at through the subscription-based All-Access feature, while Gametracker is provided for free on the website.

Three of UNLV's seven losses this year are to teams that are currently ranked in both top-25 polls (Wichita State, Wisconsin and San Diego State), with a fourth to a team receiving votes in both polls (New Mexico). The Runnin' Rebels are ranked for the 13th week this season (12 consecutive), their highest total number of weeks in the polls since 1992-93.

UNLV is 28-16 all-time against New Mexico, including 17-5 in Las Vegas and 13-3 at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Runnin' Rebels and the Lobos split the season series this year, each winning on their home court. The Runnin’ Rebels are 3-0 vs. New Mexico in MW Tournament play, winning in 2002, 2004 and 2006, all in the quarterfinals. The Runnin' Rebels have won six of their last seven games against New Mexico at the Thomas & Mack Center.
