The No. 18/21 San Diego State men's basketball team earned the No. 6 seed in the Midwest Region of the 2012 NCAA Championships, the selection committee announced today. The Aztecs (26-7) will travel to Columbus, Ohio to play 11th-seeded North Carolina State on Friday, March 16. Game times will be announced later.

The winner of the SDSU-North Carolina State game will play the winner of third-seeded Georgetown and 14th-seeded Belmont on Sunday, March 18 in a third round game.

San Diego State is making its school-record third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division I Tournament and eighth overall. This was the Aztecs' first-ever at-large selection into the tournament.

This will be head coach Steve Fisher's 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fifth with SDSU. The No. 6 seed is the second-best seed of his San Diego State career, only being outdone by last year's No. 2 seeded team, which advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to eventual national champion Connecticut.

The Aztecs' 26 victories are tied for the program's second most in their Division I history with the 2008-09 team that advanced to the NIT Final Four. Only last year's team had more victories (34).

The Wolfpack (22-12) earned their 23rd trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since the 2005-06 season. SDSU and NC State have never played on another.
