Franklin, Tapley Land on NABC All-District 17 Squad

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The San Diego State duo of Jamaal Franklin and Chase Tapley were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) all-District 17 first-team on Wednesday morning. Franklin and Tapley are now eligible for the NABC Coaches' Division I All-America teams, which will be announced March 20.
Franklin, who hails from Hawthorne, Calif., is averaging 17.2 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists for the back-to-back Mountain West regular-season champions. Franklin is also shooting 79.3 percent from the free-throw line and has registered 12 double-doubles, all of which have come in his last 19 outings.
Franklin, who has reached double figures in scoring 28 times this season, earned 2012 Mountain West Player of the Year honors and was selected to the all-MW first team and MW all-tournament team.
Tapley, meanwhile, enters Friday's NCAA Tournament game averaging 17.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.8 steals. The junior is also shooting 45.7 percent from the field, including 43.3 percent from beyond the arc.
The Sacramento, Calif., native, who scored in double figures 29 times this season, was named an all-Mountain West second-team performer and was selected to the MW all-tournament team.
Joining Franklin and Tapley on the all-district team are Drew Gordon and Kendall Williams of New Mexico and Mike Moser of UNLV.
The backcourt tandem has helped the No. 22/23 Aztecs to a 26-7 record, which is their fourth straight season with at least 25 victories, and a No. 6 seed in this week's NCAA Tournament. The NCAA appearance is San Diego State's third in a row and seventh consecutive postseason berth overall.
