Mountain West Student-Athletes and Coaches Receive All-District Accolades

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Ten Mountain West student-athletes have been selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 17 team, while one coach received NABC district honors. In addition, six MW student-athletes and one coach received All-District accolades from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).

Air Force senior guard Michael Lyons, Colorado State senior forward/center Colton Iverson, New Mexico junior guard Kendall Williams, San Diego State junior Jamaal Franklin and UNLV freshman forward Anthony Bennett were named to the NABC District 17 first-team, the organization announced on Tuesday. Colorado State senior forward Pierce Hornung, New Mexico junior guard Tony Snell, San Diego State senior guard Chase Tapley, UNLV senior guard Anthony Marshall and Wyoming senior forward Leonard Washington all garnered second-team accolades from the association. New Mexico head coach Steve Alford was named the District 17 Coach of the Year.

Lyons, Iverson, Williams, Bennett and Marshall each joined New Mexico sophomore center Alex Kirk on the USBWA All-District VIII squad, while Alford was chosen the USBWA District VIII Coach of the Year.
