Moser To Remain At UNLV For His Junior Year

April 1, 2012

LAS VEGAS ( - UNLV men's basketball sophomore forward Mike Moser announced Sunday that he will remain as a Runnin' Rebel for his junior season. He has spent the last couple weeks contemplating entering the NBA Draft, but has decided to stay at UNLV.

"I went through the process, talked with my mom, my AAU coach, and Coach Rice and the staff at UNLV," Moser said. "We looked at all of my options, and in the end I decided it would be best for me to stay in school. We have a great team coming back and a great fan base. I believe in our program and I love playing in Las Vegas and for UNLV.

"Two big factors were also for my mom to see me graduate and to have a chance to win a national championship. I know I can improve and am looking forward to putting in the necessary hard work."

Last week Moser was named honorable mention Associated Press All-America, UNLV's first since 2003. He led the No. 23/25 Runnin' Rebels to a 26-9 overall record this season, which included the program's fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last six years and third straight at-large selection.

Moser led the team in scoring and rebounding (14.0 ppg, 10.5 rpg) and was one of only two players in the Mountain West to average a double-double. He was a unanimous first-team All-MW honoree in addition to being named the league's Newcomer of the Year and a member of the all-defensive squad. He was also named All-MW Tournament, was first team NABC All-District 17 and was also selected to the USBWA's All-District VIII squad.

"We are excited that Mike will be returning to UNLV for the coming season," head coach Dave Rice said. "His success put him in position to have to make a difficult decision. Like Mike, we are all committed to working extremely hard in the offseason to build upon a very good year. He was a big part of helping us win 26 games and being ranked the last 13 weeks. We are very confident in Mike, his returning teammates and our incoming players."

Moser led the Runnin' Rebels in rebounding 25 times, was UNLV's highest scorer in 12 of those games and ranked 10th in the nation in rebounding during the regular season (10.6 rpg). He also led the team and MW in steals with 1.9 per contest and is one of only two players in the country to have more than one game with at least 20 rebounds this season.

Moser's 15 double-doubles this year ranks 21st in the country and his 369 rebounds ranked fourth in UNLV single-season history. Moser started 34 of UNLV's 35 games and scored in double figures 25 times, including five games with 20 or more points. He had 10 or more rebounds in 21 games, including 13 or more seven times.
