June 13, 2012

Upcoming New Mexico sophomore Hugh Greenwood has made the first cut for the 2012 Australian Olympic Team qualifying, and he is currently on the roster for the Boomers as they competed in the YouYi Games. Greenwood is one of 18 hopefuls left.

Australia will cut the roster to 12 for the Olympic Games, which are being held in London starting on July 27th.

Greenwood saw his first action of the YouYi Games two nights ago, going 0-for-2 with a pair of assists in a 69-65 Boomer victory. That was game two of the three-game friendly series. He also saw six minutes of action in Australia's 78-55 win that swept the series. In that game he records a rebound and an assist.

For the tournament, Hugh was 0-for-2 shooting with a rebound and three assists to no turnovers, playing 13 minutes.

"Hugh is getting great experience," said head coach Steve Alford. "He is playing against international competition, and he is trying to make an Olympic team which is not easy to do. The experience he is getting will be very beneficial."

Greenwood as a true freshman averaged 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and he had 83 assists to just 34 turnovers. Australia will announce its Olympic team sometime next week.
