CSU's De Ciman named to Canada Basketball Junior Men's National Team
June 18, 2013
TORONTO, Ont. – Colorado State sophomore Joe De Ciman on Monday was named to the Canadian Junior Men’s National Team (JMNT), and is slated to represent his country at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship, June 27 through July 7 in Prague, Czech Republic.
De Ciman, a 6-4 guard, was a key reserve for the Rams as a true freshman in 2012-13, playing in 23 games and averaging 1.0 points and 0.4 rebounds in 5.1 minutes per contest to help the Rams’ senior-laden roster to a school-record 26 victories and a second consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.
De Ciman posted his best performance of the season in the Rams’ second game of the year, a 93-50 victory over Chadron State at Moby Arena, in which he tallied season highs with six points and three rebounds in 20 minutes of action off the bench.
He also came up big for the Rams in the team’s narrow 73-69 victory at Nevada on Feb. 6. With the Rams’ going to bench early because of an illness to starting all-conference forward Pierce Hornung, De Ciman played four minutes in the opening stanza of the game and hit a huge three-pointer at the 1:49 mark of the first half to tie the game, 31-31, and erase a deficit that had grown to as many as 12 points in the early going. The shot helped give the Rams the momentum needed to escape with the four-point victory on the road.
A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, De Ciman has previously been a part of Canada Basketball as a member of the Cadet Men’s National Team in 2009 and 2010, while also participating in U18 Junior National Team tryouts in 2012.
