'Dogs Open at No. 24 Texas on Longhorn Network

This is the third meeting between Fresno State and Texas in men's basketball. The series is tied 1-1 with the home team winning each time.
This is Fresno State's first game against a Big-12 school since Dec. 3, 2005, when the 'Dogs won 84-77 at Iowa State.
Fresno State returns five letterwinners, including three starters, and welcomes nine newcomers to its roster for the 2012-13 season.
Fresno State will play 12 of its 29 regular season games against teams that made the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Fresno State Opens Regular Season at Texas
In its first of six games against teams ranked in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, Fresno State will travel to Austin to play the 24th-ranked Texas Longhorns on Friday, Nov. 9. The contest will tip off at 5 p.m. PT and be broadcast on ESPN's Longhorn Network (LHN), which can viewed in the San Joaquin Valley only on AT&T U-verse (Ch. 609).
Bulldogs Begin Mountain West Era
Fresno State is in its first season as a member of the Mountain West, which produced four NCAA Tournament teams last year. The MW features two teams ranked in the preseason AP and USA Today/ESPN Coaches polls (No. 18/19 UNLV and No. 20/20 San Diego State) as well as two schools receiving votes in the national polls (New Mexico and Colorado State). The MW ranked as the best in the West and fifth-best in the nation for the 2011-12 season, according to the NCAA Ratings Performance Index.
About the No. 24 Texas Longhorns
The Texas Longhorns are tied for 24th in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll and received votes in the preseason Associated Press poll, which marks the 11th time in the past 12 seasons that UT earned preseason Top 25 honors. No. 24 Texas is led by Rick Barnes, who is entering his 15th season as the Longhorns' head coach. Barnes has led UT to the NCAA Tournament every season for a school-record 14 consecutive appearances, and three regular season Big 12 championships. Sophomore guard Sheldon McClellan is the Longhorns' leading returning scorer (11.3 ppg) and had a team-best 75.6 percent free throw percentage.
Against the No. 24 Texas Longhorns (Series Tied 1-1)
The Bulldogs and Longhorns last met in 1998 as part of a home-and-home series when Fresno State was coached by Jerry Tarkanian. Texas beat Fresno State 98-86 on Dec. 14, 1996 in Austin while the 'Dogs defeated the Longhorns 90-82 on Jan. 24, 1998 at Selland Arena in Fresno.
Fresno State Picked Media to Finish Seventh in Mountain West
Fresno State was projected to finish seventh out of nine Mountain West schools, as selected by a voting panel comprised of Conference media, during preseason voting. Defending MW co-regular season champion San Diego State edged UNLV as the Conference media's preseason favorite to win the MW men's basketball regular-season title in 2012-13.

CollegeSportsMadness.com honored Fresno State juniors Kevin Olekaibe (second-team) and Jerry Brown (fourth-team). This is the second time that the two juniors have received conference recognition by CSM. Last season, Olekaibe averaged a team-best 17.8 ppg and Brown led the team in rebounding (5.5 rpg) and blocked shots (27), while averaging 8.8 ppg.
