Albuquerque, N.M. --- The pregame activities are set for Monday night in advance of the nationally televised game with Davidson that is a part of the ESPN 24 Hours of College Basketball Tip-Off Marathon.
The game, which is sponsored by 93.3 KOB FM, will be a "Red Out". Head coach Steve Alford, who is 126-46 in his first five seasons, is asking for all fans to wear Lobo red to the game, which tips off at 11:59 p.m. on Monday night.
The event starts with the Howl Glow prior to the game, sponsored by Envy Night Club at Route 66 Casino Hotel, which will take place in the Parking Lot northwest of The Pit. The Howl Glow will feature a live D.J. and music, and Papa John's Pizza will be on hand, selling pizza for a $1 per slice. The Howl Glow will be from 8:30-11 p.m.
In addition, three hot-air balloons will be located in the Pit West parking lot from 8-10 p.m., taking part in a mini balloon glow.
The Pit doors will open early for this game only, at 10:30 p.m. There will be no charge for parking, although parking pass regulations will be enforced.
New Mexico and Davidson both made it to the NCAA Tournament, with Davidson losing in the second round to Louisville in Portland. UNM then faced Louisville, losing by three in the third round. The game marks the first game from The Pit to be broadcast on ESPN since the 2011 NIT game against UTEP in March.
The last regular season game in The Pit on the ESPN family of networks was on February 4, 2006 when the Lobos defeated Utah 64-53 on ESPN2. The last time a game from The Pit was on ESPN was February 14, 2005, when the Lobos defeated Air Force 63-52. ESPN is available in 98 million homes in the United States.
The amount of national exposure for the Lobo program is immeasurable. The Lobos will be highlighted throughout the build-up to the college basketball season in commercials on all of the ESPN family of networks, and the game-highlights will be featured prominently on ESPN's SportsCenter, at halftime of the other Marathon games, as well as during ESPN's College GameDay Driven by State Farm, which will take place in Atlanta.
The Lobos are the only Mountain West team taking part in the Marathon, and they are one of 12 schools that were in the 2012 NCAA Tournament that are in this year's Marathon.
