San Diego State, Viejas Arena Selected to Host NCAA Tourney Games in 2014

Nov. 12, 2012

SAN DIEGO - The NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee notified San Diego State Monday that it will host the second and third rounds of the 2014 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl. It marks the third time in the last 14 seasons that San Diego State and its on-campus arena have served as a host for the men's basketball tournament.

San Diego State will serve as the host institution. The Aztecs will not be eligible to play in San Diego should they qualify for the NCAA Tournament next season.

The games are scheduled to be played Friday, March 21, and Sunday, March 23, at Viejas Arena in 2014, although the dates are not finalized at this time. Eight teams will play in four games in the second round. Four teams advance to play in the third round with the winners in those two games advancing to NCAA regional competition.

This marks the third time that San Diego State and its on-campus facility have hosted the men's basketball championship. In 2001 and 2006, SDSU and Viejas Arena (formerly Cox Arena) played host to the NCAA first and second Rounds.

Other second- and third-round sites in 2014 include Buffalo, N.Y. (First Niagara Center), Milwaukee (Bradley Center), Orlando, Fla. (Amway Center), Spokane, Wash. (Veterans Memorial Coliseum), Raleigh, N.C. (PNC Arena), San Antonito (AT&T Center) and St. Louis (Scotttrade Center).

The 2014 Final Four will be played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Ticket information for the San Diego site will be announced at a later time.
