CSU's Iverson earns MW Player of the Week honors

Nov. 12, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After leading Colorado State to a season-opening victory over Montana on Friday, Rams senior C Colton Iverson was honored Monday when the Mountain West announced him as the league’s Player of the Week.

Playing in his first game in nearly 20 months, Iverson led Colorado State to a 72-65 victory over the Grizzlies in the Rams' 2012-13 season opener. Iverson, who sat out the 2011-12 season after transferring from Minnesota, posted a game-high 18 points on 5-of-8 (.625) shooting from the field and 8-of-12 (.667) shooting from the free-throw line. The Yankton, S.D., native also added eight rebounds, one assist and one steal against the Grizzlies.

The combination of 18 points and eight rebounds gave Iverson the best debut for a CSU player since former Ram Andy Ogide opened the 2008-09 campaign with 20 points and 14 rebounds in another season-opening victory over Montana.

With the victory, CSU tied a school record for consecutive home wins (14) at Moby Arena and extended the program's streak of home-opening victories to 32.

Iverson and the Rams return to the court on Thursday, hosting Chadron State at Moby Arena.  Tipoff between the Eagles and the Rams is slated for 7 p.m. MT.
