Mountain West Names Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Dec. 3, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State sophomore guard Derrick Marks has been named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games through December 2. This is the first career MW weekly accolade for Marks.

Marks scored a combined 49 points and shot 73.1 percent from the field while helping Boise State to a pair of road wins last week. On Wednesday, the Chicago, Ill., native scored 28 of his career-high 35 points in the second half, including 18 straight, as the Broncos upset No. 11/11 Creighton, 83-70. His 35-point performance tied the MW sophomore class record and was the highest by a Bronco since Reggie Arnold scored 35 against New Mexico State on Feb. 27, 2010. Marks also added four rebounds, four steals and two assists while going 13-of-19 (.684) from the field and 8-of-10 (.800) from the free throw line. The win was just the second road victory against a ranked opponent in Boise State history, and marked the highest-ranked foe ever beaten by the Broncos. In an 87-64 win at Seattle on Sunday, Marks contributed 14 points, a career-high six steals, three assists and one blocked shot while converting 6-of-7 (.857) field goal attempts. For the week, Marks averaged 24.5 points, 5.0 steals, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while going 19-of-26 (.731) from the field, including 2-of-3 (.667) from 3-point range, and 9-of-12 (.750) from the charity stripe.
