Lobos Move Up to 18/20 in Rankings, Host USC Wednesday

    Albuquerque, N.M. --- Two more wins, an 8-0 record, and now the Lobos are in the Top 20. New Mexico hosts both USC and Valparaiso this week inside The Pit, starting Wednesday night at 8:15 p.m. when the Men of Troy, the USC Trojans come to Albuquerque.     New Mexico moved up seven spots in the Associated Press poll from 25 to 18, meaning a 22-spot jump from two weeks ago. The Lobos are one of three Mountain West teams in the AP poll, with San Diego State checking in at No. 17 and UNLV at No. 21. Boise State, Colorado State, and Wyoming are all receiving votes in the poll as well.

    In the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Lobos moved up three spots to No. 20. San Diego State is No. 15, and UNLV is No. 18, with Boise State, Colorado State and Wyoming once again all receiving votes, giving the Mountain West six teams finding its names in the poll out of nine.

    For the Lobos, they have now been ranked 16 weeks in the decade, moving into a tie for 37th on the list of most weeks ranked this decade. New Mexico is 8-0, tying for the eighth-best start in school history. New Mexico has wins this season over Connecticut, George Mason, and Davidson, along with a win over Mercer, which turned around and defeated Florida State in Tallahassee.

    UNM also has the only win over UIC. New Mexico is ranked third in the RPI, with the No. 16 strength of schedule according to Realtimerpi.com.

    The Trojans, who play Nebraska tonight in Lincoln, are 3-3 on the season, including an overtime win in Maui over Texas.
