Notre Dame last won a national championship in 1988 under former coach Lou Holtz. Davie served as Holtz's defensive coordinator at Notre Dame from 1994-96. He succeeded Holtz as Irish coach in 1997.
In five years at Notre Dame, Davie went 35-25 and guided the Irish to their first-ever BCS appearance in the 2001 Fiesta Bowl.
Davie is beginning his second year as coach at UNM, having guided the team to a 4-9 mark in 2012. The four wins were the most by a Lobo team since 2008.
