Rams' Kontodiakos selected to play in college all-star game

ALLEN, Texas – Former Colorado State punter Pete Kontodiakos has been selected to play in a postseason all-star game in Allen, Texas, on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Kontodiakos, who recently completed his senior season for the Rams, will be the punter for the Nation team in the annual Texas vs. the Nation collegiate all-star bowl. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 p.m. (CT) at Eagle Stadium, and will be televised live on Fox Sports Southwest.

Both the Nation and Texas rosters carry 54 players, and Kontodiakos is the only punter on Nation roster.

A native of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Kontodiakos broke CSU’s single-season punting record and ranked third in the nation in 2012 with an average of 46.5 yards per punt. His career average of 43.8 ranks second all-time at Colorado State, and thirty percent of his punts traveled 50 yards or more. His career long was a 76-yard punt during his freshman year of 2009, and he added three punts longer than 70 yards in 2012 (73, 72, 72).

The first Texas vs. the Nation game in 2007 broke the attendance record for first year all-star games with 21,548. In 2009, attendance almost doubled in the third year of the game with more than 40,000 fans in attendance. Ninety-three percent of the 2009 roster went on to sign NFL contracts, 111 out of 119 players.

The head-to-head record of the Texas and Nation teams in the four games played stands at a 2-2 tie.
