San Diego State Announces 2012 Football Schedule
March 2, 2012
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State, which has made two straight postseason bowl-game appearances, revealed its 2012 football schedule on Friday. The Aztecs will play 12 games with seven taking place at home inside Qualcomm Stadium. Game times and television arrangements will be announced at a later date.
SDSU is slated to open the campaign on the road at Washington on Sept. 1. The game will be contested at CenturyLink Field, which is the home of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks. The teams will be meeting for the first time since 1997.
Following their season opener, the Aztecs return to Mission Valley and open a three-game homestand against Army on Sept. 8. In 2011, the Aztecs traveled to West Point, N.Y., and handed the Black Knights a 23-20 loss.
North Dakota will visit America's Finest City on Sept. 15, with San Jose State closing San Diego State's three-week stay at home on Sept. 22. SDSU and the Fighting Sioux have never met on the gridiron. SJSU and San Diego State, however, have played 35 times, the last of which occurred in 2008.
The Aztecs will put the Oil Can on the line on Sept. 29, when they travel to Fresno State to open Mountain West action. A year ago, San Diego State defeated the Bulldogs at Qualcomm Stadium to claim the Oil Can trophy. The old rivals from the Western Athletic Conference have met 51 times with the Scarlet and Black holding a 27-20-4 series lead.
After a brief trip to the Central Valley, SDSU returns home and plays host to MW newcomer Hawai'i and Colorado State on consecutive weekends. The date with the Warriors, San Diego State's first since 2005, is set for Oct. 6, while the outing with the Rams is scheduled for Oct. 13. SDSU defeated CSU, 18-15, last season in Fort Collins.
A pair of schools from the Silver State is next up for the Aztecs. San Diego State travel to another MW newcomer in Nevada on Oct. 20, and UNLV is set to visit Southern California on Oct. 27. The Aztecs have not faced the Wolf Pack since 2004 and have split four previous match-ups. San Diego State, however, has won two straight over the Rebels and are 13-8 all-time vs. UNLV.
SDSU will make its first trip to Boise State on Nov. 3, before playing host to Air Force on Senior Night on Nov. 10. The Aztecs have successfully sent their seniors out on a winning note the last two seasons.
San Diego State will receive its first open date of the season on Saturday, Nov. 17, and return to action on Nov. 24, when it faces Wyoming in Laramie.
Season-ticket deposits (non-refundable) for new accounts are now being accepted. By placing a $66 deposit, fans will receive the opportunity to purchase season seats in the best available locations at Qualcomm Stadium. Deposits can be placed by visiting GoAztecs.com or by calling (619) 283-7378.
