April 2, 2013
The Nevada football program announced Tuesday that former NFL first-round draft pick Ashley Lelie has joined the Wolf Pack coaching staff as a quality control coach.
Lelie, who starred at Hawaii and was a college teammate of Nevada offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich, will work with the Nevada offense.
“We are excited to introduce Ashley Lelie as the newest member of our staff,” first-year coach Brian Polian said. “He brings with him a wealth of football experience. As a record-setting receiver at Hawaii, former first-round draft pick, and seven-year NFL veteran, Ashley has instant credibility as a player and we are looking forward to helping him begin what will be a long coaching career.”
Lelie, 33, was the 19th overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. He played seven years in the NFL, catching 217 passes for 3,749 yards and 15 touchdowns. Lelie spent four years in Denver before moving on to single seasons with the Atlanta Falcons (2006), San Francisco 49ers (2007) and Oakland Raiders (2008).
Born in Southern California, Lelie prepped at Radford High School in Honolulu. He starred for three seasons at Hawaii, catching 194 passes for 3,341 yards and 32 touchdowns.
