Football Impresses At Friday Scrimmage
April 5, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV football team marked the end of its fourth week of spring practice by turning in an entertaining, well-played scrimmage at Rebel Park on Friday.
Basking in incressingly hot sunshine, the players crisply went for about 130 plays in the two-hour period, and their head coach was pleased with the efforts.
"This was good," Bobby Hauck said. "We put in some great work, we were spirited and physical and both sides made some plays, which is encouraging."
Asked to name a position group that has stood out recently, Hauck was hard-pressed to narrow it down to one.
"The linebackers have been doing some good things but also some younger guys on the offensive line and tight ends have shown a lot of improvement."
After taking the weekend off, the squad will return for two more practices next week before the final scrimmage on Friday.
"It's been an oustanding spring through the first 12 practices," Hauck said. "Now we need to have our best three efforts next week so we can put our equipment away for a while and be proud of the work we put in."
The Rebels will return to the field on Monday for a full-pads practice from 3:45-6:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend the FREE family-friendly Spring Showcase on April 12 at Rebel Park that begins at 5:30 p.m. The third annual event is scheduled to include activities for kids, autograph and photo opportunities with staff and players as well as concessions stands offering food and drink for purchase.
