2013 Football Schedule Released

April 11, 2013

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV football team will open its season on a Thursday night for the third straight year but play all of its home games on Saturdays this fall as the Mountain West released its complete 2013 schedule Thursday.

Kickoff times and television information will be released by the league during the coming weeks.

The 46th season of UNLV football kicks off on Thursday Aug. 29 with the Rebels' first trip to play the University of Minnesota. The Golden Gophers will be only the third Big Ten Conference team to host the Rebels, following a 1998 trip to Northwestern and five trips to Wisconsin, the last of which came in 2011. The Rebels and Gophers also opened the 2012 season on a Thursday in Las Vegas.

On Sept. 7, UNLV hosts Pac-12 Conference member Arizona for the first time. The schools have faced each other on the gridiron just once before as the Rebels traveled to Tucson in 2001 when Arizona won 38-21. UNLV will return the game in this series in 2014.

One week later on Sept. 14, UNLV will host Central Michigan in a game that has been moved two weeks earlier than originally announced. The programs have met three times with UNLV winning twice. The Rebels downed CMU 33-20 in Las Vegas in 1993 while the Chips prevailed 35-23 in Mount Pleasant in 1994. The teams faced each other again later that year as UNLV defeated the Mid-American Champions 52-24 in the 1994 Las Vegas Bowl. The Rebels have played six schools that are currently members of the MAC but this will be the first such meeting since UNLV defeated Toledo at Sam Boyd on Aug. 29, 2003. The Rebels will return the game three years later on Sept. 17, 2016.

The non-conference schedule wraps up on Sept. 21 as UNLV hosts Western Illinois for the first time in 36 years. The Leathernecks are the first school from the FCS Missouri Valley Conference to play the Rebels since Illinois State came to town in 1997. The all-time series is split at one apiece as WIU won 35-28 in Las Vegas on Sept. 9, 1972, and then UNLV prevailed 59-29 at Sam Boyd Stadium on Oct. 8, 1977.

UNLV, which is a member of the new West Division, will open its league schedule by traveling to Mountain Division member New Mexico on Sept. 28 before going into a bye week. Hawai'i then comes to town on Oct. 12 before the Rebels head out for two consecutive weeks. UNLV takes on Fresno State for the first time since 1997 with a game on Oct. 19. The Bulldogs joined the MW in 2012 but the two programs did not play each other. On Oct. 26, the 39th edition of the Battle for the Fremont Cannon will be waged when the Rebels head to Nevada, Reno.

UNLV will play three home games in the month of November, starting on Nov. 2 with the first matchup with new conference member San Jose State since 1997. The league's other new member, Utah State, comes to town one week later on Nov. 9. The Rebels and Aggies played each other last year in Logan in a non-conference matchup.

After having to play for 13 straight weeks a year ago, UNLV will have its second bye week of the fall on Nov. 16 before playing a Thursday game at Air Force on Nov. 21. The regular-season finale will see San Diego State come to Sam Boyd Stadium on Nov. 30.

"It will be a tough start to the year facing Big 10 and Pac-12 schools and then another bowl team right off the bat, but we will be excited to face that challenge." UNLV head coach Bobby Hauck said. "The home and road games have a nice mix for us this year and we're excited about the new divisional scheduling format in our league. As was the case a year ago, all of our home games should be great, exciting college football games. With spring ball wrapping up this week, we can't wait for August to get here."

New football season tickets are on sale now starting at only $90 for all home games. Renewals are also available now. Log on to www.unlvtickets.com for more information. For more information on Rebel Football, visit www.unlvrebels.com.
