Lobo Football Team Announces 2013 Captains

April 22, 2013

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The University of New Mexico football team has elected four seniors as captains for the 2013 season, the program announced Monday night.

Running back Kasey Carrier, center Dillon Farrell, inside linebacker Dallas Bollema and defensive lineman Jacori Greer have been named permanent captains for 2013, as a result of a vote from the Lobo players and coaching staff.

“In the second year of our program, these four players have emerged as true leaders,” Lobo coach Bob Davie said. “They understand how we do things. Obviously, in announcing captains this early, we feel strongly that we will gain from their leadership this summer and into the fall. All four are tremendous examples of what we want our players to be.”

Carrier was a second-team All-Mountain West selection in 2012. He set a single-season school record with 1,469 rushing yards in 2012, and his 15 rushing touchdowns were second on UNM’s all-time single-season list.

The native from Pearland, Texas, also set a school and a conference record for a single-game rushing performance with a 338-yard effort against Air Force on Oct. 27. He earned MW Player of the Week honors for that game, as well as the Texas State game on Oct. 6, in which Carrier rushed for 191 yards and four TDs.

Senior defensive lineman Jacori Greer led UNM in sacks (five) and tackles for loss (eight) in 2012.

Farrell was an honorable mention All-MW selection as a center in 2012 after playing right tackle in 2011. He started all 13 games in 2012 and participated in 787 snaps. Farrell finished the year with a 99 percent assignment grade. The Baton Rouge, La., native was penalized just once all season.

Bollema also earned honorable mention All-MW acclaim in 2012, leading the Lobos with 89 tackles and tying for the team lead with three interceptions. The Artesia product also forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles and had 5.5 tackles for loss. He also earned Academic All-Mountain West honors in the fall of 2012.

Greer was an honorable-mention all-conference selection in 2012 after starting all 13 games at defensive end. He led the Lobos with eight tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks. Greer (Little Elm, Texas) added 17 pounds to his frame in the offseason to get ready for 2013 and has become more of a vocal leader during spring practice.
