UNM, Tulsa Will Play Two-Game Football Series
June 14, 2013
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The University of New Mexico and University of Tulsa football teams have agreed to a home-and-home series in 2015 and 2017, UNM announced Friday.
The first game will take place on Branch Field at University Stadium on Sept. 12, 2015. The Lobos will make the return trip to H.A. Chapman Stadium in Tulsa, Okla., on Sept. 23, 2017.
“Our football program has tremendous respect for Tulsa,” UNM coach Bob Davie said. “The fact that the Golden Hurricane have gone to a bowl game for three straight years shows the success they’ve had. Giving the proximity between the schools, the series should generate a great deal of fan interest.”
The Hurricane went 11-3 in 2012, beating Central Florida 33-27 in overtime to win the Conference USA championship game. They also beat Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl, 31-17 and have a 29-11 overall record from 2010-12.
Tulsa has a 4-2 series lead over UNM. The last game took place Sept. 12, 2009 on Branch Field at University Stadium, with the Golden Hurricane winning 44-10. The Lobos last beat Tulsa 51-13 in the 1997 regular-season finale, also on Branch Field at University Stadium.
