June 14, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Award-winning Rebel Football play-by-play announcer Russ Langer has had his contract extended for two years, IMG College, the exclusive multimedia rights holder for UNLV Athletics, announced Friday.
The eight-time Nevada Sportscaster of the Year debuted as the radio voice of the Rebels in 2012 and will remain in the booth at least through 2014.
Langer is currently in his 14th season calling games for the Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team, Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, and also serves as Director of Broadcasting for the Pacific Coast League franchise.
This fall, he will again be joined by Mike Pritchard, who heads into his eighth season as radio game analyst for Rebel Football. Langer also serves as co-host of "The Bobby Hauck Radio Show."
"Russ is a true professional and a great representative of our football program," said UNLV Director of Athletics Jim Livengood. "It's a very positive thing to have continuity in your announcers and Russ and Mike make a great team in the booth."
A two-time Minor League Broadcaster of the Year, Langer was also the New Mexico Sportscaster of the Year in 1999 when he was play-by-play voice of the Albuquerque Dukes. His Major League Baseball broadcasting experience includes more than 40 games for the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox and Montreal Expos.
"I am genuinely excited to be back as the Radio Voice of Rebel Football," Langer said. "The people at IMG College and the University are first-rate and I'm especially pleased to be working with Mike Pritchard again. I know that we both are looking forward to a terrific season with Coach Hauck and the team."
The 2013 UNLV football season, which includes seven home games, gets underway Thursday, Aug. 29 when the Rebels play at Minnestoa. The program's home opener is set for Saturday, Sept. 7 when Pac-12 Conference member Arizona comes to play UNLV at Sam Boyd Stadium for the first time.
Football season tickets are on sale now starting at only $90 for all home games. Log on to www.unlvtickets.com for more information.
