SAN DIEGO - Seven San Diego State football student-athletes have been named preseason all-Mountain West by Athlon Sports, including three on the first team.
Junior running back Adam Muema (Covina, Calif.), junior linebacker Jake Fely (Oceanside, Calif.) and senior Aztec (safety) Nat Berhe (Colton, Calif.) landed on the first team, while junior defensive tackle Sam Meredith (La Mesa, Calif.), junior linebacker Derek Largent (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) and senior kick returner Colin Lockett (Diamond Bar, Calif.) were named to the second team. Senior Bryce Quigley (Apple Valley, Calif.), meanwhile, was selected to the third team.
Muema, a second-team all-MW selection as a junior last year, rushed for 1,458 yards in 2012, which ranked fourth in the MW and eighth in Aztec single-season history. He had 17 overall touchdowns, including 16 rushing scores, and averaged 6.2 yards per carry to rank second in the league (minimum 1,000 yards). Additionally, Muema had nine receptions for 147 yards. Last month Muema was chosen as a preseason all-MW first-team pick by Phil Steele.

He also had 11.5 tackles for loss (sixth in MW), a team-high seven sacks (fourth in MW), two pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Fely was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week on two occasions. Fely was also named to the Phil Steele Preseason all-MW First Team last month.
Berhe, who last month was named to the 2013 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List and was on the Phil Steele Preseason all-MW First Team, has earned all-league accolades each of the past two seasons (second team in 2012, honorable-mention in 2011). Last year as a junior, he led SDSU with 94 tackles, which ranked 10th in the MW. Berhe also added five pass breakups, two interceptions and a fumble recovery, while earning MW Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors on Sept. 10.
Meredith, an all-MW honorable-mention selection as a true sophomore in 2012, had 36 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one pass breakup, one sack and a fumble recovery. He was also a second-team preseason all-MW pick by Phil Steele in May.
Largent, who garnered honorable-mention accolades in his first season on The Mesa in 2012, totaled 61 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, three pass breakups, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions and a forced fumble. Largent, who's three fumble recoveries tied for 24th in the country, was chosen as a preseason third-team selection by Phil Steele last month.
Lockett, who has the second-most kickoff return yards (1,455) in program history, averaged 25.9 yards per kick return last year, which ranked 21st in the nation. He had 777 return yards (third all-time at San Diego State in a season) on 30 attempts, while returning two for touchdowns. Lockett was also on Phil Steele's preseason all-MW second team.
Quigley, an honorable-mention all-MW pick last year in his first season on the offensive line, helped the Aztecs rush for a school-record 2,869 yards. He was also a third-team choice on the Phil Steele preseason all-MW team, which was released last month.
