The Tradition Continues: Lobo Football Women's Clinic Is July 19
June 28, 2012
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The Lobo Football Women’s Clinic has become more than a tradition at the University of New Mexico; it is now part of the program’s culture.
UNM will host the 19th annual event July 19 at the Indoor Practice Facility, just southeast of University Stadium.
The purpose of the clinic is give women a first-hand look at the innerworkings of a college football program. The clinic also will provide attendees an opportunity to meet first-year coach Bob Davie, his staff and current members of the Lobo football program.
“The Lobo Football Women’s Clinic is a tradition here at UNM that we look forward to continuing,” Davie said. “We welcome the opportunity to give them a glimpse of what Lobo football is all about, moving forward.”
All participants will get dinner and beverages with the Lobos in the End Zone Club, take a tour of the Lobo football facilities, learn on-field drills with instruction from the players and coaches, and receive a T-shirt for attending.
“There are a lot of women who are pretty savvy when it comes to football,” former Lobo player and current Lobo assistant coach Jason Lenzmeier says. “So it’s not like we’re trying to introduce them to football; it’s just taking them though a day in the life of a Lobo football player.”
Lenzmeier, who has participated in the clinics both as a player and a coach, said the enthusiasm the women bring sets the tone for the evening.
“This is always the camp I really look forward to because the women are so excited to be out there. They just want to go out and compete and have a good time. It is a good time; it’s unique and it’s fun.”
The cost of the event is $30, and Proceeds benefit the Send-A-Kid Program, which allows underprivileged youth to attend Lobo football games.
The event takes place from 5:30 p.m.-8:15 p.m. Check-in is at the Tow Diehm Athletics Facility. Athletic clothing and shoes are recommended.
