Rams punter named to CFPA Punter Award watch list

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State senior punter Pete Kontodiakos has been named to the College Football Performance Awards 2012 CFPA Punter Award preseason watch list.

This award is given to the nations top punter based on scientific rankings that measures how the athlete increased the overall effectiveness of their team.

Kontodiakos is among 44 players selected to the preseason watch list that includes two other punters from the Mountain West.

Kontodiakos, who was a candidate for the Ray Guy Award in 2011, averaged a career best 38.7 net yards per punt and also recorded a 43.6 gross average which was in the top 20 in the nation. He also blasted 20 of his 57 punts for 50 or more yards, while pinning opponents inside their own 20 on 13 occasions.

This 2011 performance earned him second-team all-conference honors.

More recently, Kontodiakos was named to Phile Steele’s 2012 first-team preseason all-MW team.
