SDSU's Gavin Escobar Named to CFPA Watch List

July 9, 2012

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - San Diego State junior Gavin Escobar has been named to the tight end trophy watch list by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA). He is among 42 who were also tabbed to the list and one of five from the Mountain West.

The CFPA bases each annual honor on players' statistics and the level to which they help improve the overall success of their teams.

The Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., native has already earned all-Mountain West first-team offensive honors from Phil Steele, Athlon Sports and Lindy's Sports. Last season, Escobar reeled in 51 catches for 780 yards and seven touchdowns. His 60.00 receiving yards per game in 2011 were third most in the nation among tight ends.

The Aztecs begin their 2012 season with a contest against Washington at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, Sept. 1 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
