Three Mountain West Football Student-Athletes Named to the 2012 John Mackey Award Watch List

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Three Mountain West football student-athletes have been named to the watch list for the John Mackey Award, presented annually to the best collegiate tight end. Colorado State junior Crockett Gillmore, New Mexico senior Lucas Reed and San Diego State junior Gavin Escobar are among 33 candidates for the award.

Gillmore, a product of Bushland, Texas, led the Rams in receptions (45), receiving yards (468) and touchdown catches (4) last season. Gillmore, who averaged 10.4 yards per catch in 2011, notched at least three catches in 11 of 12 games.

Hailing from Tucson, Ariz., Reed caught 22 passes for 241 yards during his junior campaign. He started all 12 games for the Lobos in 2011 and finished last season with six multi-catch games.

Escobar, a native of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., tallied 51 catches for 780 yards and seven touchdowns last season. His 60.00 receiving yards per game in 2011 were third most in the nation among tight ends.

Named after NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The 2012 John Mackey winner will be announced on December 6, 2012.

Williams ('10) of the Green Bay Packers and the 2011 John Mackey Award recipient Dwayne Allen of the Indianapolis Colts.
