MOBILE, Ala. - Fresno State seniors Robbie Rouse and Phillip Thomas were named Thursday to the Senior Bowl's first-ever "Watch List" that highlights 311 seniors and top NFL draft prospects to keep an eye on during the 2012 college football season.
The top 100 seniors in the country will be invited to participate in the 2013 Senior Bowl, set for Saturday, Jan. 26, in Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Appearing on the Watch List is not a requirement for a player to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl.
Rouse and Thomas were two of six players from the Mountain West named to the Watch List. Fresno State and San Diego State, with quarterback Ryan Katz and defensive back Leon McFadden, were the only MW schools with two players named to the list.
Rouse was one of 20 running backs named to the Watch List. He enters the 2012 season as the nation's fourth-leading rusher with 3,157 yards in his career. He needs only 317 more yards to break the school rushing record. The San Diego native is also on four other preseason watch lists, including the ones for the Doak Walker and Walter Camp awards.
Thomas was one of 30 safeties selected by the Senior Bowl to its watch list. He is set to embark on his senior season, which he has been patiently waiting for after a broken leg caused him to miss all of the 2011 season. As a sophomore in 2010, Thomas was fifth on the team with 64 tackles and he led Fresno State with three interceptions.
The Fresno State Bulldogs open the 2012 season on Sept. 1 at home against Weber State.
