Mountain West Conference Announces Additional Regional Television Games for 2012 College Football Season
Aug. 28, 2012
Laramie, Wyo. -
The Mountain West Conference has announced the addition of numerous regional telecasts to its 2012 college football schedule. Four Wyoming Cowboy football games are among those games to be added to the regional telecasts. Those four games are the Oct. 13 home game versus Air Force, the Oct. 20 road game at Fresno State, the Nov. 3 home game against Colorado State and the Nov. 24 home contest against San Diego State. ROOT Sports will televise the Air Force, Fresno State and San Diego State games, while the 2012 "Border War" versus Colorado State will be televised by KTVD Channel 20 out of Denver.
Wyoming's home game versus Boise State on Oct. 27 was earlier selected as a national telecast by CBS Sports Network. With the addition of the regional telecasts, five of Wyoming's eight Mountain West games are assured to be televised this season.
Two other Cowboy road games may also be televised back to Wyoming, contingent on finding a television station to carry the games in the state of Wyoming. Those two potential road telecasts are the Nov. 10 game at New Mexico and the Nov. 17 game at UNLV, which are both being televised locally in New Mexico and Nevada. That would give Cowboy fans a potential to watch seven of Wyoming's eight conference games on television this season.
In conjunction with the release of the regional television package, ROOT Sports issued a press release highlighting their commitment to covering Mountain West football in 2012. ROOT Sports will also be televising games of Mountain West members Air Force, Colorado State, New Mexico and Hawai'i.
"We are excited to bring Mountain West football games to our viewers this season," said ROOT SPORTS SVP/General Manager Tim Griggs. "With the addition of these 10 games from a high-caliber Football Bowl Subdivision conference, we continue to stress our commitment to bringing the best regional sports programming to our audience."
Along with ROOT Sports' announcement, Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson commented on the new relationship established with ROOT Sports for the coming season.
"Several of our member institutions' footprints mesh well with the ROOT SPORTS territory," said Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson. "We look forward to high-quality telecasts on what will be a great platform for Mountain West football this season."
Wyoming's Sept. 22 game at Idaho will be carried on ESPN3 (online through ESPN's official website).
Television coverage of Wyoming's season-opening game at Texas on Sept. 1 is being televised exclusively on the Longhorn Network. The Longhorn Network is not available on cable systems in Wyoming.
