Getz named to College Football Performance Awards honorable metion team
Sept. 3, 2012
Air Force running back Cody Getz was named to the College Football Performance Awards honorable mention team this week, one of eight running backs in the nation to earn the honor. Clemson's Andre Ellington was named the national running back of the week by the CFPA.
In his first start, Getz rushed for career highs of 218 yards and three touchdowns in the 49-21 win over Idaho State, Sept. 1. The senior from Buford, Ga., scored on runs of nine, 63 and 41 yards in the game. His first score of the game was AFA's first touchdown of the season and came on a fourth-and-two play from the nine-yard line in the first quarter. His career-best 63-yard score in the second quarter gave the Falcons a 14-0 lead. Getz' previous career long run was 19 yards vs. Wyoming last season. He entered the game with just 286 career yards.
Getz's three touchdowns are the most by a Falcon since fullback Mike DeWitt had four vs. New Mexico last season. Getz is just the sixth Falcon to rush for more than 200 yards in a game and the first since Chad Hall set the school record with 275 yards vs. Army in 2007.
