Introducing Booth Banter!

Sept. 20, 2012

New UNLV Football play-by-play announcer Russ Langer will share his insights here at each week during the 2012 season. Langer is a seven-time Nevada Sportscaster of the Year and just completed his 13th season calling games for the Las Vegas 51s Triple-A team.

WEEK FOUR EDITION: The Air Force Game.

I'm loving my first season as the Rebel football broadcaster, especially the chance to work with classy individuals like Mike Pritchard and Coach Hauck...UNLV's conference opener this Saturday against Air Force promises to be an exciting one. The Rebel defense will need to be on their collective toes battling the Falcons' option-flavored offense...Junior linebacker Tim Hasson, a Las Vegas native, has been one of the busiest defenders in the early going, with six more tackles Friday night against Washington State...Win, lose, or draw, UNLV football remains a terrific value with tickets starting at just $19...While the Rebels continue to seek additions to their all-important list of needed playmakers, one of the brightest spots thus far has clearly been freshman quarterback Nick Sherry, who on Friday became the first Rebel QB to exceed 300 yards passing in a game since Omar Clayton did it three years ago...The Rebel faithful should be proud that former UNLV lineman Martin Tevaseu has hooked on with Indianapolis, bringing to four the number of UNLV grads who are currently on active NFL rosters...Marcus Sullivan is pure electricity in the open field...Hope to see everyone Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium but if you can't make it out, listen to the broadcast on ESPN 1100 AM/98.9 FM.
