ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- University of New Mexico sophomore kick returner Chase Clayton has been named to the Phil Steele's 2012 Midseason All-America fourth team, the publication announced Wednesday.

Clayton (Carson, Calif.) is ranked second in the nation in kickoff returns with a 36.2-yard average. He scored on 98-yard returns against both Texas Tech and Southern this season. He is one of six Mountain West players to make the all-America teams.

Clayton earned College Football Performance Awards Kick Returner of the Week after each of those games.

Clayton and the Lobos travel to Hawaii on Saturday to try to climb over the .500 mark in October for the first time since 2007. The game is set for 10 p.m. Mountain Time and can be seen on ROOT Sports (Comcast channel 261, DirecTV channel 683 and Dish channel 414).
