WEEK 10 EDITION:
The New Mexico Game
Homecoming always adds a little spice to the matchup on the field, and the hope is that the Rebel faithful will take advantage of the great fall weather and show their support in a big way on Saturday ... Tim Cornett continues to rack up 100-yard games left and right and his 64-yard dash to begin the scoring at San Diego State was one of the most electrifying plays from scrimmage all year ... Attending Rebel practices is both a privilege and an education, and allows an observer the opportunity to enjoy a front-row glimpse of genuine team spirit ... Aztec head coach Rocky Long has high praise for UNLV and the progress he feels is evident from last season to now. "I just hope you guys don't put it all together today," he told coach Hauck prior to Saturday's contest ... There are several painful things I can think of that would hurt less than getting hit by senior linebacker John Lotulelei, up to and including stepping in front of a bus ... San Diego State tight end Gavin Escobar's size and strength are similar to another outstanding player who toiled on a professional level in that same city, Kellen Winslow. Unless he sustains some sort of debilitating injury, he'll be coming soon to an NFL franchise near you ... Whenever UNLV meets up with New Mexico, I'm reminded of my days living in Albuquerque. The team didn't win much, but Brian Urlacher was a man among boys ... With Nick Sherry playing at less than 100% physically, the job of the Rebel offensive line becomes significantly more important as we head into the final four games of 2012.
