FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State safety Phillip Thomas earned his second, first-team All-America honor of the season on Monday, as selected the Bulldog senior to its first-team Monday.

Thomas was the only player on the first-team that is from a non-BCS program.

Last Wednesday, Thomas was named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America team, becoming the 15th different player in program history to be named a first-team All-American.

Thomas led the nation this year with eight interceptions and tied for the national lead with nine total take-aways and three interceptions returned for touchdowns. His four forced fumbles also tied for the sixth-most among all FBS players.

On Tuesday, Thomas heads down to The Home Depot College Football Awards show, as he is a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award that honors the nation's top defensive back. The award will be announced live on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 4:30 p.m. PT on ESPN.

Thomas registered 82 tackles on the season and was third in the Mountain West with 12.0 tackles for a loss. He also had four sacks and four pass breakups on the season.
