The 23rd-ranked San Diego State men's golf team finished in a fourth-place tie at the San Diego Intercollegiate. The tournament, which marked SDSU's first of 2012, was held at San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista. The Aztecs shot a 23-over 887 over 54 holes and tied with No. 48 Tennessee.

No. 5 Washington won the tournament with a 6-over 870 and finished ahead of second-place and ninth-ranked USC (+13, 877). Third-ranked UCLA shot a 20-over 884 to place third.

SDSU completed its second round today after darkness suspended play on Monday. When the second 18 was finished, the Aztecs found themselves in sixth place (+26, 602) and 19 shots behind the Huskies.

San Diego State was able to move up in the standings thanks to a collective 3-under 285 over the final 18 holes. The Aztecs' effort was the second-best round of the tournament, trailing only Washington, which carded a 4-under 284 in the first round.

Senior J.J. Spaun shot a second-round 75, but put forth his best effort of the tournament in the third round with a 1-under 71. The San Dimas, Calif., native finished in a tie for 10th-place with a 4-over 220.

The Aztecs had two players finish in an 18th-place tie in senior Colin Featherstone and freshman Wilson Bateman. Featherstone turned in a 1-over 73 in round two and finished with a 4-over 76 to card a three-round total of 223 (+7). Bateman, meanwhile, struggled in the second round with an 81, but rebounded with a 71 on the final 18.

Right behind Featherstone and Bateman were teammates Alex Kang and Tom Berry. Kang, a senior, registered a 79 in the second round, but like Bateman, bounced back with an impressive 2-under 70 to finish with an 8-over 224. Berry went 76-74 over the final 36 holes and finished in a 21st-place tie with Kang and two others.

Junior Evan Emerick turned in a 10-over 226 for the tournament to tie for 28th place. Matt Hoffenberg, meanwhile, recorded a 1-over 73 in third round, which was a five-stroke improvement over his second-round score and was ultimately his best round of the tournament. He finished in a tie for 32nd place (+11, 227).

Newcomer Cameron Tennant finished his first tournament as an Aztec with a 20-over 236. A native of Woodland Hills, Calif., Tennant had his best round over the final 18 holes as he shot a 4-over 76.

San Diego State returns to action Feb. 27-28, when it competes at the North Ranch Intercollegiate in Westlake Village, Calif.
