KAHUKU, O`ahu- The Colorado State men's golf team is tied in sixth place after Round 1 of the 36th annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate Wednesday. Freshman Cameron Harrell leads the Rams tied in 15th place.

Head Coach Jamie Bermel was pleased with the play of Harrell after Day 1.

"I was very impressed with Cameron Harrell today", Said Bermel. "He played really well and just keeps getting better each day."

Harrell carded a 2-under 70 after the first 18 holes of competition played on the Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer Course. Senior Zahkai Brown is one stroke back at 71 (-1), tied in 22nd.

Senior Mike Wuertz shot an even-par 72 and is tied in 35th place. Juniors, Kirby Pettitt and Mike Sorenson, finished with identical scores of 2-over-par 74. Pettitt and Sorenson share a spot in 50th place.

Bermel is hoping for better play from his team on Day 2.

"We hit the ball fairly well today," said Bermel. "We struggled with the greens and made very few makeable putts."

CSU is tied in sixth with Nevada and Missouri at 287 (-1). The Cal Bears, defending champions, lead the 18-team pack at 270 (-18). Conference rival New Mexico is in second with a 274 (-14).
