Men's golf recap: Rams lose to Iowa in tight match

BRADENTON, Fla.- The Colorado State men’s golf team completed Round 3 of the Callaway Match Play tournament played at the Concession Golf Club Monday. The No. 13 seeded Rams lost a tight match with the No. 8 seeded Iowa Hawkeyes 3-2.

It was a battle to the end for Head Coach Jamie Bermel’s team.

“We actually played really well and just got beat,” said Bermel. “Hats off to Iowa, they just made a few more putts than we did.”

Senior Michael Wuertz and Sophomore Parker Edens scored the team’s 2 points. Wuertz defeated Ian Vandersee 2 and 1 and Edens took care of Brian Bullington with an identical outcome of 2 and 1.

Senior Zahkai Brown lost to Barrett Kelpin by 1 stroke in his individual match.  Freshman Cameron Harrell fell to Chris Brant 2-up.

Junior Kirby Pettitt was up 2 strokes with three holes to play. Steve Ihm, Pettitt’s opponent, came up clutch with three birdies to win the match 1-up and seal the victory for the Hawkeyes.
CSU will take on No. 14 seeded Arizona State in the final round Tuesday at 6:30 a.m. MT. The winner of the match will finish in 11th place and the loser will claim 12th.  Bracket information and live scoring will be available on
