Bulldogs Swing to Finish in 11th

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.-- The Fresno State men's golf competed in the 67th annual Transamerica/WFG Western Intercollegiate to finish in a two-way tie with UC Irvine for 11th place out of 14 teams.

"Today was a struggle for everyone on the team," head coach Mike Watney said. "We did not get comfortable on this golf course. We have to shake it off and play good in the last two tournaments to qualify for the NCAA."

The Bulldogs battled in round three of competition to finish 68-over par, 1118 (361-375-382). In round three, the 'Dogs slipped into 11th place following their ninth place finish after day one of competition where they fired 36-over par, 736.

On the tournament, the 'Dogs posted 37 birdies and five eagles.

Cal took the crown at one-over par, 1051 (350-361-340).

The tournament was hosted by San Jose State and held at the Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. on April 13-14.

Rufie Fessler led the Bulldogs at 13-over par, 223 (73-75-75) and tied for 44th place.

Johnny Partridge fired 14-over par, 224 (67-79-78) to finish in a tie for 48th place.

UCLA's Pedro Figueiredo took the individual title at six-under par, 204 (65-71-68). Figueiredo fired 13 birdies over the 54-hole tournament.

The Bulldogs return to action on April 19-21 at the Winchester Invitational at the Winchester Country Club in Meadow Vista, Calif.
