No. 4 Rebels Finish Fourth In Provo

PROVO, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 4 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 8-under-par 280 on Saturday at the PING Cougar Classic and finished in fourth place. The tournament was played at Riverside Country Club (par 72, 7,142 yards).
Host BYU fired a final-round-low 12-under 276 to capture the team title at 14-under 850, five shots ahead of Colorado State, which finished second at 9-under 855 after a final-round 11-under. BYU's "B" team finished third at 5-under, followed by UNLV at 4-under 860. Southern Utah rounded out the top five at 11-over. The tournament featured nine teams and 51 individuals.
Colorado State's Zahkai Brown earned medalist honors at 11-under 205 after a final-round 7-under 65, which included eight birdies and a bogey. He had four birdies in a row on holes 12-15. Brown finished three shots ahead of Mike Jurca, who played on BYU's "B" team. Jurca shot a final-round 3-under 69 to finish at 8-under for the tournament.
UNLV was led by junior Kevin Penner, who finished fourth at 6-under 210 after a final-round 3-under 69. Penner's final round consisted of five birdies and two bogeys. He turned in three birdies in four holes from No. 13-16.
Other Rebel individuals: sophomore Blake Biddle finished tied for 10th at 1-under 215 after a final-round 3-under 69, freshman Kurt Kitayama tied for 12th at 1-over 217 after a final-round 3-under 69, freshman Carl Jonson tied for 21st at 5-over 221 after a final-round 1-over 73 and senior Derek Ernst tied for 25th at 6-over 222 after a final-round 2-over 74. Junior Arthur Kim, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 42nd at 11-over 227 after a final-round even-par 72.
UNLV will be back in action, Friday-Sunday, May 4-6 at the Mountain West Championship, which will be played at Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
