TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Fresno State men's golf team concluded the three-day Mountain West Championship with its best round of the tournament and had two Bulldogs place in the top-20.

In round three, the Bulldogs continued to fight for a spot on the leaderboard, but finished in a tie for sixth to conclude their 2012-13 season. The Bulldogs finished at 30-over par, 882 (301-291-290).

"It definitely got exciting as we were picking up strokes on Air Force and Colorado State," head coach Mike Watney said. "We just had a little too much ground to make up."

Senior Jack Mulroy tied his round two score of 70 to move him into the top-10. Mulroy shot one-under par on the day and ended in a tie for 10th place at one-over, 214 (74-70-70).

Senior Rufie Fessler recorded his best round of the tournament with two-under, 69. Fessler's third round performance moved him into the top-20 of the 45-player field. On the tournament, Fessler fired five-over par, 218 (76-73-69) and took 17th place.

"I'm very proud of Rufie and Jack for playing such great rounds to close out their careers," Watney said.

On the day the Bulldogs shot six-over par and made 12 birdies. The Bulldogs finish is the eighth occasion of breaking the 900-mark and third occasion of firing a strong comeback in round two and three.

In addition to concluding the Bulldog's spring season, Mike Watney wraps up his 35th season as head coach and will say a final goodbye to Bulldog golf.

"I walk away feeling blessed that I was able to work 34 years at Fresno State and love every minute of it," Watney said. "I have worked alongside some of the finest people you will ever meet. I love the Valley."

The golf icon was an inspiration to the world of golf and has taught many life lessons to those who had the pleasure of working with. Although Watney will retire from his position as head coach, he will not retire as a Bulldog fan.

"Paula and I plan to stay here and enjoy it even more that I have some time." Watney said. "You will see me at even more Fresno State athletic events."
