No. 13 Rebels One Shot Back Entering Final Round

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 13 UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 6-over-par 286 on Monday and is one shot off the lead after two rounds of play at the PING/Golfweek Preview Invitational. The tournament is being played at the Capital City Club Crabapple (par 70, 7,248 yards), which is also the site of the 2013 NCAA Men's Division I Championship.

The Rebels are in second place and have a 36-hole score of 7-over 567. UCLA is the team leader at 6-over 566 after a second-round 4-over 282. Host Georgia Tech and California are both tied for third at 9-over, while Washington and New Mexico are tied for fifth at 11-over.

Individually, San Diego State's Tom Berry held on to the lead after a second-round 1-under 69. He has a two shot advantage at 4-under 136. New Mexico's Gavin Green is at 2-under 138, followed by UCLA's Pedro Figueiredo and Texas A&M's Cameron Peck, who are both tied for third at 1-under.

UNLV sophomore Kurt Kitayama and UNLV senior Kevin Penner are tied for fifth at even-par with Georgia Tech's Bo Andrews. Kitayama shot 2-over 72 on Monday, while Penner carded a 1-under 69 for the second round.

UNLV junior Blake Biddle is tied for 15th at 2-over 142 after a 1-over 71 on Monday, freshman AJ McInerney is tied for 40th at 5-over 145 after a second-round 4-over 74 and sophomore Carl Jonson is tied for 66th at 10-over 150 after shooting 8-over 78 on Monday.

The 15-team, 75-individual tournament features 14 teams that were listed among Golfweek's preseason top 25 in the nation. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday with tee times starting at 8 a.m. ET.
