The Wyoming Cowboy golf team played the first two rounds of the Mark Simpson-Colorado Invitational, on Monday, in Erie, Colo., carding two very different rounds. The Cowboys struggled in the first round shooting a 308 (+20) before improving by 26 strokes in the second round shooting their second-best round of the season of 282 (-6). Wyoming finished the day in 14th place of the 14-team field with a score of 590 (+14). Leading UW was junior Brent Baylon who shot rounds of 75 (+3) and 71 (-1) to finish with a 36-hole score of 146 (+2). Baylon finished the day tied for 37th place of the 80-man field.

"I am very proud of how this team battled back and played a great round this afternoon," Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen said. "We came out slow and dug ourselves a hole in this morning's round, but we played hard this afternoon. To have four of our five players even or under par this afternoon is great, but we need to be consistent through all three rounds."

Baylon fired his second under-par round of the season in the second round and finished as the Pokes leading scorer. Freshman Kamrin Allen shot a first round 78 (+6), but improved his second round by nine strokes firing a career-best round of three-under 69. Allen finished with a score of 147 (+3) tying for 43rd place. In the first round, sophomore Jake Hedge shot a four-over 76. He improved by four strokes in the second round shooting an even-par 72, to finish with a score of 148 (+4) tying him for 49th place. Junior Eddie Stewart also improved between the first and second rounds shooting a seven-over 79 in the first round, before carding a two-under 70 in the second round. He finished the day tied for 58th place with a score of 149 (+5). Stewart's under-par second round was his fourth under-par round of the season. Fellow junior Eric Parish shot a first round 80 (+8) before knocking off five strokes during his second round shooting a 75 (+3) to finish with a score of 155 (+11). Parish finished the day in 77th place.
