No. 9 Rebels Tied For Seventh At Nicklaus Invite

DUBLIN, Ohio (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 9 UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 23-over-par 311 on Monday and is tied for seventh place after one round of play at the 2012 Jack Nicklaus Invitational, which is being played at Muirfield Village Golf Club (par 72, 7,352 yards).
There were 36 holes scheduled for Monday, but because of a lengthy frost delay only 18 holes were played and the tournament will be shortened to two rounds (36 holes).
Oklahoma State holds a seven-shot lead at 7-under 295, followed by Kentucky and BYU, who are both tied for second at 14-over 302. Kent State is fourth at 15-over, host Ohio State is fifth at 20-over, San Diego is sixth at 21-over, while Arkansas, Vanderbilt, UNLV and Purdue are all tied for seventh at 23-over.
UCF's Greg Eason shot a 2-under 70 to take a one-shot individual lead over Oklahoma State's Ian Davis, who shot a 1-under 71.
UNLV freshman AJ McInerney shot a 1-over 73 to lead all Rebel players and is in a tie for fourth, three shots off the lead. Senior Kevin Penner is tied for 13th at 3-over 75, freshman Zane Thomas is tied for 46th at 9-over 81, junior Nicholas Maruri is tied for 50th at 10-over 82 and junior Blake Biddle is tied for 54th at 11-over 83.
